The Northland Viking Marching Band, directed by Mr. Eckler, is over 130 members strong, including Northland’s Drill Team, the Valkyries, coached by Brian Morton. Northland Marching Band is one of the few remaining high school bands marching in the traditional military style. Steeped in tradition, the Viking Marching Band, with its "Q-tip" hats, white gloves and high-stepping spats, continues to inspire awe from crowds of spectators, whether during half-time at a football game or while marching one of its many prominent parades.
The Vikings Marching Band regularly participates in prestigious bowl games, parades and events. Over the New Year break in 2001-2002, the Northland Viking Marching Band traveled to New Orleans, Louisiana to participate in the Nokia Sugar Bowl. Northland performed pre-game and halftime shows. During Spring Break 2004, the Marching Band performed in the "SpectroMagic" parade at Walt Disney World Orlando.
